March 25, 2020ChrysalisLatest News
The following ideas are provided to help you endure and triumph through this challenging time…..
    – Home & Supplies–
  • Stock up on food & supplies but don’t hoard – keep a food pantry of up to 1–2 months
  • In particular, consider your needs for baby formula, water, nappies, toilet paper, vegetables that can be turned into soup and frozen, long life milk, pasta, rice, water, flour to make bread, pet food
  • Masks, soap and hand sanitisers
  • Floor & surface cleaning supplies to prevent infection at home
  • Medicine and first aid supplies for 2 months to try and keep away from Covid-19 infected hospitals
  • Backup plan in the unlikely event power/water becomes unavailable – candles, camping gas bottle for BBQ
  • Drop food and other supplies at the door for the elderly or the incapacitated

  • Plant a garden (if you can) – fresh veggies may become difficult to get if supply chains break.
  • Learn a new language or brain developing play/apps
  • Develop a skill or do projects
  • Clean and organise around home
  • Home renovations – beware Bunnings supplies are dwindling!
  • Develop a daily routine while on home isolation
  • Pursue interests or activities which make you happy and bring enjoyment ie. making home movies, craft, scrap books, photo books, painting
  • Home school hours and parent support for young kids when doing online education & home schooling

– Stay  –
  • Hygiene – hand washing all the time, daily clothes washing (2 day virus lifespan on material), wear gloves in public (petrol pumps are a big transmitter of the virus), wear a face mask (30 million on their way to Aus), avoid touching your face
  • Exercise, Yoga and physical activity daily – You Tube has heaps of exercise routines
  • Social distancing – obviously stay home now if you can, deliver things to the front door of the elderly
  • Sleep – important to get 7-8 hours for maximum immunity
  • Sun – delivers Vitamin D which increases immunity and limits the spread of virus as it does not like sun and higher temperatures. Spend 30 minutes outdoors each day
  • Vitamin C for the immune system

  • Start a journal and record a positive thought each day – your next of Kin will love to read it in the future!
  • Find a way to give each member of the family their own space – time out – at various times each day
  • Each family member should pursue an activity that makes them happy
  • Have a family meeting and discuss the plan for home quarantine – patience and kindness to each other, safety of family
  • Limit screen time each day – especially negative media reports.  This will keep a positive focus.
  • If you can, try to keep the 4 family enemies of quarantine at bay – criticism, defensiveness, stonewalling and contempt
  • By being productive and enjoying this life interruption, you will assist greatly in warding off any feelings of depression and anxiety
  • If conflicts arise during this period that cannot be diffused please reach out to the experts for help as there is a lot of help available – most therapists are operating via video conference now as well
  • Visualise and set goals for your future after the virus lockdown has passed – establishes positive expectations
  • Meditation and mindfulness – develop a gratefulness for what you do have. Find methods to help you relax and rest
  • Do something to help someone else – there is amazing healing and satisfaction in serving others and taking our minds off our own predicament
  • Regular communication to check in on friends and family

  • Don’t panic. There is lots of help and lots of options if things are financially uncertain for you.
  • The Australian government will be rolling out multiple safety net packages for businesses and individuals. They have only just started! More help will be on the way which we can guide you on.
  • Remove any unnecessary spending – time to pull in the belt and live frugally for now
  • Consider spreading your savings across more than one bank
  • Discuss your options with your bank regarding mortgage payments as the banks are open to deferred mortgage payments or working out another solution for you
  • Cheap bank loans are available to business owners now to help with cash flow
  • Reduce your pension payments from your super if you can to preserve wealth – the Government has reduced the minimum limits.  Call us for more information.
  • Talk to us if you have been stood down or your business income has dried up, as to possible options to help with cashflow
  • If you are a Centrelink recipient, contact them to see if there are further payments available to you (but be prepared for a queue)
  • Stay the course and hold your nerve with your investments. They will recover.
  • YOU ARE NOT ALONE. We are all in this together and can all help each other get through it.

For all of us this could present a wonderful opportunity to reset our lives with the values that mean the most to us and get off the current conveyor belt.
